The Curate's Egg', whilst retaining its essential egg shape silhouette, recognisable at a distance, is an optical illusion; the sculpture has been cut out into three separate relief carvings to place in the voids. The work draws upon the essences of African sculpture.
Derek Howarth ARBS (Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors)
After graduating with an honours degree in sculpture at the Manchester College of Art and Design Derek Howarth started his career as an assistant to the great sculptor Henry Moore and continued to work with him at his studio over a period of 6 years.
Derek went on to have his own working studio where he started to specialise in creating scenery from both polystyrene and fibreglass. Derek made scenery for popular tv shows and went on to work for Steven Spielburg making scenery for blockbuster films such as Star Wars.
Inbetween this illustrious career Derek also:
- created sculptures of his own design for private clients and exhibitions.
- was called upon to create pieces for national and international projects.
- was a mentor and lecturer at Norwich, Leicester and Loughborough Colleges.

As the customer will be required to view the sculpture prior to purchase there will be a no returns policy on this product. The gallery will advise on appropriate insurance that should be put in place to cover the artwork during transportation. .
