Asma Mirza

1st prize winner

of the

Stone Prize Award International Art Competition

My art is an infusion of my identity as a British Muslim woman. Expressing with a simple pencil line, patterns or colours has been my way of communicating since I was a child. Drawing pictures was my weapon against my struggles with dyslexia. Over the years this early childhood habit introduced me to many creative mediums including photography, painting, collecting unusual objects or even reading poetry by magnificent and spiritual writers of by gone years. Studying Fine Art and Art History opened doors for more opportunities to explore and experiment with even more wonders and materials. I am inspired by abstract and organic forms. And also draw inspiration from my heritage, Islamic arts, patterns, colours and simple Arabic letters. I am also using textiles to to create work on canvas. I see my art as spiritual and a colourful yet humble effort to promote the beauty of the Creator.
